3rd Party Software Installation Guide

This guide will demonstrate how to install a piece of 3rd party Microsoft Windows® software inside the Kiddix Platform.

3rd party software is not supported, but you are welcome to install other applications.

In our tests about 65% of the tested children's software and educational packages installed and worked well on the Kiddix Platform.

  1. Update Kiddix to the latest version.  This will ensure you have everything needed to use 3rd party software

  2. Insert the CD-ROM for the application you wish to install

    • We don't allow software to automatically run the autoload file contained on most CD-ROM's.
    • To continue either double click on the Autoload.exe file stored on the CD-ROM.
      • If the Autoload.exe doesn't exist often there is a file named Setup.exe or Install.exe that can be run instead.

    • At this point if all is working well the application installer should appear inside a window.  You can now install/run the application as normal.
      • Please be aware that sometimes applications will have minor graphical glitches.  These can be ignored.

  3. If all went well the application should have finished installing and can be run by either:
    • Clicking on the icon it places inside the Desktop folder in the kid account home directory
    • Inserting the CD-ROM for the application and again clicking on the Autoload.exe or other suitable *.exe file on the CD-ROM

Applications installed in this manner are installed on an emulated C:\ drive which can be located in the kid account filemanager under this location
/home/kiduser/.wine/drive_c .

(Replace 'kiduser' with the actual username of the child's account.)
