Kiddix PC - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What type of software comes with the Kiddix PC?
A: Each Kiddix PC
ships with our Kiddix Platform software pre-installed. The Kiddix
Platform is an operating system for children and includes applications
such as a word processor, web browser, calendar, calculator, email,
etc., over a dozen educational applications, and a suite of games. More information about our software can be found here.
Q:
What type of parental controls are included?
A:Kiddix
includes a variety of parental controls ranging from web
filters, software, restrictions, email controls, etc. We also
provide parents statistics of their children's web browsing habits.
Our goal is to provide parents with controls that are easy to use
and effective.
Q:
What age group is best suited for Kiddix?
A:
Kiddix is primarily suited for elementary school children (ages 5
- 10), however depending on the child, slightly younger and slightly
older children may also enjoy many of the features Kiddix provides.
Q: Can my children access the internet with the Kiddix PC?
A:
Yes, your children will still be able to access the internet on the
Kiddix PC -- the difference is that they are protected through our
built in parental controls. Out of the box, Kiddix is designed to
keep your children safe as they go on the web, and you always have the
option to limit access to only websites that you find appropriate.
Q: Is the Kiddix PC internet ready?
A:
Yes, each Kiddix PC is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet card, and
connecting to the internet is as simple as plugging the Kiddix PC into
your home router.
The Kiddix PC only works with broadband internet connections, and we don't have support for dial-up modems at this time.

Q: Does the Kiddix PC come with a CD-ROM drive?
A:
No, a CD-ROM drive is not included with the Kiddix PC, however it would
be unlikely that you would need one, as our Kiddix Platform software
comes pre-loaded on each machine. If needed, a USB CD-ROM drive
can be connected to the Kiddix PC through one of the four included USB
ports.
Q: Does the Kiddix PC come with Microsoft Windows?
A: No. The Kiddix Platform software loaded on each machine is a complete Linux-based operating system.
Q: What else do I need to get started using the Kiddix PC?
A:
You will need to plug the Kiddix PC into a keyboard, mouse, and monitor
before being able to use it. Customers wanting an additional
keyboard, monitor, and mouse for their Kiddix PC can add it to their
individual order.
Q: I read that the Kiddix PC is sold out. Can I reserve a unit?
A: The Kiddix PC has been in short supply due to the limited availability of the Shuttle KPC hardware
needed for each Kiddix PC. If you would like to reserve a unit, sign up on our mailing list. When additional units become available we will email you and you can reserve a Kiddix PC.
Q: Can I buy Kiddix software without a Kiddix PC?
A:
Yes! If you are a do-it-yourselfer, and want to turn your family computer into a Kiddix PC, our Kiddix Platform software is available through Amazon.com. The Kiddix Platform software can be installed on most PC's and can reside next to Microsoft Windows.
